The picturesque town of Birnam is on the banks of the river Tay, around 12 miles north of Perth on the A9. It is approximately one hour by car away from Edinburgh and two hours from Inverness, and has access to train services via the Dunkeld and Birnam train station, which is on the London - Inverness route.
Famous for Shakespeare's Birnam Wood reference, the town developed in the Victorian times with the coming of the railway. Birnam was a favourite place of Beatrix Potter, and the town now has a Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden, as well as an arts and conference centre, and annually holds its own Highland Games.
Primary pupils attend the nearby Royal School of Dunkeld, before going on to high school options in Aberfeldy or Perth.
