Around eight miles east of Dundee, the seaside town of Carnoustie in Angus is famous for its golf, with Carnoustie Golf Links one of the venues for The Open Championship and for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Water sports are also popular in Carnoustie Bay.

The town has a railway station with services to Dundee, Glasgow and Aberdeen, regular bus services, and nearby Dundee airport has regular flights to London. Carnoustie has a population of around 10,500, with local amenities including shops, leisure centre, hotels and restaurants.

There are three primary schools in in the town and one secondary, Carnoustie High School.
