The pretty Angus village of Edzell, close to the Angus glens, is five miles north of Brechin by the River North Esk. It is roughly midway between Dundee, 32 miles to the south, and Aberdeen, 42 miles to the north-east, and within easy reach of both via the A90.

The distinctive Dalhousie Arch spans the road into Edzell from the south, leading to the broad main street lined with 19th century buildings, and which also houses various shops and a hotel. Sports facilities include Edzell Muir, a parkland and sports field north of the village, and Edzell Golf Club. Close by is the ruined 16th century Edzell Castle, now owned by Historic Scotland, with its Renaissance walled garden.

Pupils at Edzell Primary School can go on to secondary school at nearby Brechin High School.
