Close to the Angus glens, the traditional market town of Forfar is situated close to A90 road running between Perth and Aberdeen. It is around 13 miles north of Dundee, where there is an airport with flights to London and a train station on the London to Aberdeen line. Forfar is the administrative centre for Angus and has a population of around 13,500. Famed for its tasty ‘Forfar Bridie', the town holds monthly farmers' markets. It is also known as the home of Forfar Athletic FC, and for the popular local Forfar Loch Country Park.

There are three primary schools and one secondary school - Forfar Academy, one of the largest schools in Angus - in the town. It also has other local facilities including shops, cafes, restaurants, a museum, swimming pool, leisure centre, ice rink, bowling and golf clubs.
