Famous as the birthplace of Peter Pan creator JM Barrie, the small town of Kirriemuir with its narrow winding streets is around five miles from Forfar and located at the base of the Angus glens. It is within easy reach of Dundee, which is about 20 miles away, with regular bus services. Aberdeen International airport is just over an hour away by car, and nearby Dundee airport offers flights to London.

The town has a population of around 6,000. It has two main parks, museums and the Kirriemuir Camera Obscura offers great views of the surrounding area. It is also known for its annual Kirriemuir Festival of Traditional Music and Song.

There are two primary schools, Northmuir and Southmuir, and a high school, Webster's High School.
