Known for its famous Stone of Scone, Scone was originally the historic capital of the Kingdom of Alba. It is just outside Perth and in the Middle Ages it was the coronation site of the kingdom’s kings. In the early 19th century the residents of the old Scone village were moved to a new site, with the Earl of Mansfield building a new palace on the site of the old village. So there are both Old Scone and New Scone villages, with New Scone now known as Scone.
