The small village of St Cyrus is on the coast around five miles north of Montrose on the A92 and is at the very south-east end of Aberdeenshire. Both Montrose and Laurencekirk railway stations, with services to Aberdeen and Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, are nearby. Aberdeen international airport and Dundee airport with flights to London are both around an hour's drive away.

St Cyrus National Nature Reserve lies between the village and the sea, with its cliffs and dunes providing an important habitat for plants and insects.

There is a primary school in the village, and pupils can go on to high school in Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk. There are also some local amenities including shops, a park and village hall.
