The largest of the fishing villages in the pretty East Neuk of Fife, Anstruther is about 10 miles south of St Andrews, with regular bus services. Home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum, the village is centred round the harbour and is known for its award-winning fish and chips and for trips out to the nearby Isle of May, which is the UK's primary puffin location. It is just over an hour by car to Edinburgh airport.

Anstruther has a population of around 3,500, and has local shops, pubs and restaurants and golf course. The village has its own primary school, Anstruther Primary School, which shares a campus and sports facilities with the high school, The Waid Academy.
