Blairgowrie, officially Blairgowrie and Rattray, is one of the largest towns in Perthshire and within easy commuting reach by car of both Perth, 18 miles away, and Dundee, 20 miles away, and with regular bus services to both. The nearest train stations are Perth, and Dunkeld and Birnam, with flights to London from nearby Dundee airport.

Situated on the banks of the River Ericht, the town's expansion in the 19th century was due to the textile industry with mills based along the river. The town is now at the centre of the area's soft fruits industry, and is at the gateway to the Glenshee skiing area.

With a population of around 8,000, the town has three primary schools - Newhill and St Stephens RC Primaries on the Blairgowrie Campus and Rattray Primary - with pupils going on to the town's secondary school, Blairgowrie High School.
